Enjoy! Music Program
Suntory Hall Academy, comprised of the Opera Academy and Chamber Music Academy, is geared towards young musicians who are on their way to becoming professionals. In addition to receiving coaching from the world’s leading artists, fellows (academy members) attend regular workshops to deepen their musical knowledge, and perform in actual concerts.

− Inaugurated in 1993.
− Helps young vocalists and pianists who want to become professionals after completing their music college studies to grow and mature, and supports the alumni to take the next step in their professional careers.
− Takes a unique approach of a workshop style whereby fellows (academy members) become each other’s ‘ears’ and help each other improve by listening to the singing of their peers and giving feedback.
− Provides an opportunity to perform in recitals showcasing accomplishments and operas in Blue Rose (Small Hall), and also performances outside Suntory Hall.
− Training period: 2 years
− Primavera course: Fellows learn the basics of vocals, bel canto, classical Italian songs, and classical opera arias.
− Advanced course: Fellows study how to deeply express and interpret songs through operatic roles. *Pianists will receive training content from across both courses.
− Italian language class common to both courses: To learn correct Italian pronunciation, text interpretation, and diction.
− Courses fully funded by Suntory Hall.
The Opera Academy not only performs for Suntory Hall’s annual ‘Open House’ and ‘Lobby Concert in ARK Hills Music Week’ in Suntory Hall but also is committed with community engagement programmes at schools and art museums.
The fellows (academy members) regularly take part in ‘Fure-ai Concerts’ at the Akasaka civic center and hold the concerts in cooperation with different organisations including NPOs and public interest groups involved with education and lifelong learning.

− Provides an opportunity to study with musicians who are active at the forefront of the chamber music scene in Japan and abroad and foster the joy and spirit of chamber music, thereby contributing to the development of young performers.
− Provides a place to perform in the form of the annual 'Suntory Hall Chamber Music Garden' festival and community outreach activities.

− Eligibility: Person who has graduated from a music college or has equivalent expertise.
− Programme fully funded by Suntory Hall.
The Chamber Music Academy is not only committed actively with community engagement programmes at schools and art museums but also holds joint projects with the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music of National University of Singapore, which offer performances by fellows (academy members) with the aim of spreading the joy of chamber music to the wider public.
The fellows regularly take part in the chamber music festival in Toyama.
With the strong wish to pass on the tradition of music to young people, the Wiener Philharmoniker (Vienna Philharmonic) is actively working to nurture young musicians. Students are recruited from the general public to participate in a master class with an on-site Japanese-speaking interpreter.
